There are a great many of these critters here in Alberta. They are small gophers and are officially called the Columbian Ground Squirrel. They do not seem to be much afraid of us in the campground but run into their holes if we get too close. However, if a dog is in the area they will send out a high pitch signal to the others and they go to their dens.
